Exam

I have chosen to do my exam on CRAMBA as i feel that this will be an easy subject to do it on,  i have quite a lot of evidence so far for this so think that this will help.

We have to think of at least 5 questions to ask the L3 students for feedback for our video.
* what would your general comments be on our performance?
* what worked well and what didn't?
* If you had any constructive criticism what would it be?
* What did you think to the sound?

Festival origin

research of origins of festival

festival is an event, usually  staged by a local community, which celebrates some unique aspect of that community.

A festival is an event, usually and ordinarily staged by a local community, which centers on and celebrates some unique aspect of that community.

Among many religions, a feast is a set of celebrations in honour of God or gods. A feast and a festival are historically interchangeable. However, the term "feast" has also entered common secular parlance as a synonym for any large or elaborate meal. When used as in the meaning of a festival, most often refers to a religious festival rather than a film or art festival.

In the Christian liturgical calendar there are two principal feasts, properly known as the Feast of the Nativity of our Lord (Christmas) and the Feast of the Resurrection, (Easter). In the CatholicEastern Orthodox, and Anglican liturgical calendars there are a great number of lesser feasts throughout the year commemorating saints, sacred events, doctrines, etc.

For a list of festivals in the USA, please see List of festivals in the United States.

Lodestar Festival

The lodestar festival is on the 3rd-5th september its held in lodestar its self, the target audience is families and then teenagers just everyone really as its aimed for everyone and its not just music its music comedy and theatre.

This festival is funded by sponsors, it has 4 sponsors it also has charities which it donates to.

Magners glasgow international comedy festival

it has already been but it was in march from the 11th- 29th they had a whole 379 acts.
Festivals don't tend to have a target audience its more of a who is interested in the comedy.
There is main funder called glasgow however there is smaller funders and there is also partners as well.

The artistic policy is that they are there to provide a variety of comedy acts for everyone.

Cambridge film festival

The festival is a 10 day thing starting on the 16th of september and then finishing on the 26th.
The festival is in cambridge at the picture house which is next to the regal.
The target audience is everyone who is really interested film.

It is funded by sponsors and also people who donate money instead of submitting films, The only sponsor of the festival is sponsor is studio 24.

The artistic policy is the celebration of film and making the artists feel appreciated really and make sure it doesn't feel work its more like a celebration of the film that they have created.

its funded by sponsors one of the sponsors which is the main one is toyota, there is no artistic policy well not that i can find as its more of a concert.

Practitioner interview

I have chosen a practitioner within the section of film making he is a local man from cambridge who makes his own films that have been shown at film festivals. He specializes in documentaries and short promotional films.
The questions that i have asked him are :-

1. How did you get into your profession?
2. What sort of qualifications would you need?
3. Have you done anything that would have been shown in the cinema?

First article for scene

This is my first article that i did for our scene magazine.

Research on Film, Animation & photography

I am going to research the cambridge picture house for my article in this section as its a local business in cambridge, which has more than one purpose within the area topic.

The cambridge arts picture house, shows only a few films each day as its not like your normal cinema. There are also clubs and groups that you can join as well, the latest one for students is slackers club which is produced by E4 and its for students. Its a free club and you also get into the picture house for free, there's only certain movies showing, however there is only one movie showing of it.

There also things like opera live via satellite from new york being played and different things like that, that you would never see at a normal cinema.

Arts Picturehouse, Cambridge
38-39 St Andrew's Street
Cambridge

Box Office Number: 0871 704 2050
email: cambridge@picturehouses.co.uk

The picture house isn't really for educational things however they work along side a company which do educational things to encourage students to get more into film education. They still are based at the picture house though.

They organise lots of projects for school to do with film and animation.

fitzwilliam artifact

Faience tiles Egyptian,
Old Kingdom,
Dynasty 3
(reign of Djoser: 2667-2648 BC)

The reason for picking this piece was because it stood out and was quite different as its colourful and i like the different blues of the tiles.

Progress on scene

What have you done so far?
So far we have been put into one group researched a practitioner or small company within that group. I choose crafts, fashion & clothing. we found a woman called kari-helene who owns a a little company in cambridge where she makes all her won clothes from alpaca wool. from this i have made an article all about the company.

How do you feel its gone?
Its gone quite well so far the article was quite easy to write but the practitioner was quite hard to find.

What could you do to improve?
I could go and actually interview the woman and find out how she got into it and the background behind it as well. Also maybe display clothing from her range or organise a fashion show maybe.

Reflection on junction yesterday (11/03)

Yesterday we went to the junction to apparently interview the practitioners there however that never happened and it turned out to be a pointless visit as we ended up getting interviewed for jobs within in the junction, but most of us had been through the interviewing stage as we have jobs. We then got to ask a few questions but it was more is there anything you want to say to them, so thats wasn't really what we went there for. We would have been off at college.

Junction research

In the junction there are 3 different performance areas.
J1 - This is where most of the club nights take place as it hold up to 1050 people.
J2 - Is used for a variety of things ranging from comedy to gigs and also theatre.
J3 - This is has sprung floor so that artist can rehearse, it also has workshops take place in it as well.
Upstairs of J1                                      This is J2

This J3
The target audience of the junction is very varied because it has different performances for different kinds of people for example there are things for children, for teenagers young adults from 18 onwards then for adults and O.A.P.s and also families. The sorts of events would be like theatre performances for children and families, then you have club nights for the 18+, there are fiver nights which are for teenagers, then there are like gigs and things for adults.

The junction is different to the corn exchange and places like that because the junction offers workshops and educational things which the others don't however when it comes to performances there are quite a few similar ones, The junction do a thing called a fiver night which is very different to what the others do as well.

Junction

Tomorrow we are going to be going to the junction to talk to people at the junction in different career roles for example like lighting, music and so on.

In our groups we must come up with questions to ask the staff at the junction.
we must include the following

*Job role and responsibilities
*Job satisfaction
*Qualifications
*Training (to be able to do the job and continue - continues professional development)

My three questions will be as followed

1. What would your daily activities involve?
2. What did you need to get into your job qualification wise?
3. Would you be able to training in your career?

Today we have been designing logo's for our newspaper we had to sketch it first then do it in photoshop afterwards, i didn't really sketch as i didn't know what to so i got idea off the internet.
We then uploaded it to flickr and for homework we have to choose 3 logo's which we like and explain why and then the one with the most votes will be the logo for our newspaper.

This is my logo which i designed.

Reflection on Scene (session 2)

Tuesdays lesson we came up with ideas for our 14 page newspaper spread.

Target audience?
we thought that everyone would be a good target audience, for example like tourists, families, adults then also young people like teenagers.

Our initial ideas were that it would be birhg and bold, that we would have a ticket discount page that you could cut out. Also we though of having a huge fold out map in the centre fold pages. Also monthly happenings

Monday, 1 March 2010

initial research

today we started our new unit called scene its all about looking to find out what's going on in and around cambridge we will then make a newspaper type thing full of all the information but there will be a variety of things ranging from music to art and also fashion and clubs.

The junction holds events like comedy acts, dance, music and some theatre pieces. the link is below.

the link above is quite good for different things like arts & craft markets and arty type places.

Samba poster

This is my poster which i made on the samba history and origins, i choose relevant images to represent brazil, where it became popular.

risk assessment

It is important to do risk assessments for outdoor performance because of the  risks involved for example there is getting hit by cars and busses and things like that then weather and the surroundings.

Changing the performance day didn't have much impact as it was raining yesterday and we would have all got wet, its important that we have our risk assessment for health and safety issues so it is a good thing that we waited. Hopefully next week everything will all be done and also the weather will hopefully be better.

Dress rehearsal

Yesterdays dress rehearsal went quite well other than it was very sameish but the band as a whole did sound really good and together and very in tune. we also practiced in our costumes and masks.
In the costumes it did feel a bit different however i don't feel that comfortable wearing the masks as i feel we look a little silly. The t-shirts aren't that bad only the fact that they haven't been painted that well. They could look successful if everyone wears them but i don't think no one will actually wear the masks.
If we had more time then i would definitely have made the t-shirts a lot better and also would have maybe thought more about the masks as i think they are a bit too out there.
But on a whole i think there has been a lot of hard work put into the the whole costume and banners and everything.

Wednesday, 3 February 2010

update on cramba

today i have helped complete the masks and also arranged the tops into piles of who has what with what mask, i also completed my poster on samba. We also had to re arrange tomorrow as our performance was cancelled due to health and safety issues so tomorrow instead of doing our performance we are going to the junction to do another rehearsal but its a dress rehearsal with all our masks and t-shirts.

Tuesday, 26 January 2010

Cramba

My involvement for the cramba preparation is designing t-shirts fro our costumes i designed a design however i designed it but due to lack of funds we are going with another design that i have also created and put on flickr.

Samba in cambridge comparison between 2 videos

The first video is the Arco iris samba.

the performance in this video is really god the way that the leader keeps the band together is really good and the sound produced is really good as well i like the rhytm and how the each different instrument adds its own sound.
There isnt a lot of choreography within this video they are just doing there own thing to be honest even thought you can see they really are getting into it and moving there feet to the beat this also helps them keep in tune with everyone else.
Costumes, the cosumes in this video are all the same they have a t-shirt or hoodie with the same logo on it so they look like a band.
There is no specific lighting in this video as its outside.

The second video is called Thudbox - Bal a

The performance on this video is really god they work really well as a band and the sound is really unique, the way they perform on stage is really quite intriguing as there are few people on stage but still together they make sch a great sound with all te variety of instruments.
The choreography in this video is very freestyle as they all seem to be doing there own thing however there s some ssort of dace going on.
They are all in white not from head to toe they just have like white tops and black trousers or some sort of arrangment of black and white, which looks effectve as they all still look the same.
Lighting well there are definitely spotlight on them and it looks like there could be strobe lighting as well as there white tops look quite blue.

The band identity in both groups is the fact that they wear the same well not in thudbox but they have the same colours on and in arco iris samba they all are wearing the same t-shirt.

Both bands interact with each other by either looking at each other smiling or usually dancing together whilst playing either the same instrument or different.

In both thudbox and arco they claps there hands to encourage the audience as this then gets them to clap alng and really gets the energy going for the band.

Well thudbox were the only band who performed on stage, its more of a line they have everyone who lays the same instument next to each other, they also have two lnes its like one behind the other but the big drums are at the back and the smaller instruments at the front.

Th light effects really give it something as it makes the stage light up and shine on who it should, i wouldnt say there are many props in either band but if there were props it would really add to it i think.

homework for weekend of the 15th

i choose this video becasue i think it sounds really good and looks like the sort of samba band that has formed through the communtiy. The performance looks quite lively they all look like they are enjoying it and also all in time. They are all wearng the same tshirts so it looks like they are all together however they are all different colours which give it some colour to be honest. It has been filmed outside at a festival in lanarkshire. this is very much like my own experience of samba as its a small band and they all look as if they are doing it because they enjoy and i enjoy it and it just looks lke what we have been doing at the junction.

Chart of girls and boys

This is a graph showing how many girls and boys i got to sign my petition and then how many girls and boys have joined my facebook group.

The petition was an equal split of girls and boys however facebook was 210 girls to 114 boys so it shows that more girls are interested but there are boys out there who would like the discount as well.

Comparison of facebook and petition

When it came to the actual day of campaigning i didn't manage to get as many signatures as i would have liked but i think if i had maybe made it aware that i was petitioning i would have got a lot more interest however you can see people are interested in my campaign by the amount of people on my facebook group so if you were to put the 2 number together it would make 340 which is quite a good number of people.

I think its easier to get interest over facebook, however if you speak to someone face to face then they will be able to understand your campaign more clearly.

Facebook update on campaign

This is another screenshot of my facebook group for my campaign, as you can see people have wrote on my wall and i have also now got 324 member however there is still people who haven't actually replied yet so I'm hoping to have more soon.

Petition picture

Here is a picture of my petition that i got people to sign for my campaign. There are about 16 signatures on it.

reflection on campaign day

my plan changed because i thought there would be a lot  of people in town but due to weather circumstances there was not really anyone around but i did get a few signatures in the refectory at break time.

it was quite successful as i got 14 signatures and this was then the class average however i feel that  could have done a lot more and maybe would have ben able to get a few more signatures if i have put myself out there a bit more.

i definitely would change location and not be as embarrassed to go up to people and talk to them as i think that was probably my biggest downfall.

next week i will probably get more signatures so that i ma able to maybe talk to NUS about upping the discount for the cards and ask if it can be opened to a wider variety of shops so there is more to choose from for other people as i think this would benefit people i also think that NUS needs to be advertised more so that students use it.

Wednesday, 6 January 2010

planning for campaign day

Today we are campaigning for our campaigns we have been giving options on location for example we can either campaign in college or we can go to town and campaign, i have choose to go to town as i feel this will benefit my campaign as it is to do with shops so i can go into shops and see if they would be willing to back my campaign i can also get students to sign my petition which would really help. i will be talking to people about what im trying to do and how it will help them.

the methods im planning on using aren't anything extreme just the simple polite technique i wont  pester people as they usually tell you to go away.

i would like to get as many people as i can to sign my petition and possibly speak to some people about my campaign like an interview style.

Facebook Group

Yesterday i created a group on facebook for my campaign i added all my friends and so far i have 151 members and its only been up for about 24 hours, i was really surprised as i didn't think anyone would join and just ignore the request however i was pleasantly surprised when i noticed people had joined.

Campaign posters

These are my 2 campaign posters for my campaign which is 20% discount for students worldwide, however i did think about changing the target audience to a smaller one so something like the UK. The posters were quite easy to design on photoshop as they were simple images and the typing was fairly easy to, the only thing which was difficult was getting the pictures on top of the ipods and rearranging the ipods to look the way they do.

Research a petition

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/teenage-jobs/?signed=f88e9cc.eb9be7

The link above is to show that i have signed a petition for "making it easier for teenagers (13-18) to get fairly paid jobs."

i choose this petition becasue i totally agree with it i thnk teenagers ranged from that age group have the right to have a job as they are older enough to cope and its nice to be independent and be able to have your own money instead of relying on your parents. I am lucky as i have had a job since i was 14 and it was quite well paid but i do feel that everyone esle should have this oppurtunity as its just as fair.

Research on my own campaign

My campaign is 20% discount for students worldwide on clothes and electrical's.

There is a student union known as NUS they are there to try and improve the lives of students and also the people in the union too. They have said that there mission is "Our mission is to promote, defend and extend the rights of students and to develop and champion strong students' unions." quoted from their website.

There is something called an NUS card which is what students from the age of 16-19 can apply for you have to be a college to apply for it as it gets sent to the studnet union rep at your 6th form and this gets you 10% discount at selected stores in the U.K.

There are also things like NUS abroad so international NUS,

From doing research on my first campaign idea i have realsied that my audience is quite big and to be honest is not really achieveable , so i have changed my audience and slightly changed my campaign idea my audience is now the U.K and the idea is to have 20% discount for students on clothes and eletricals however i think it would be a good idea if i worked alongside the NUS team as they already have a good system going i just feel that they should broaden which shops your allowed to use the card in and maybe hae a few more shops which sell diffrent thing for example somewhere like john lewis as they sell electircals clothng acceorises etc.

Researching a campaign.

We have been asked to research a campaign from the following website

I have chosen a national campaign which is about saving jobs from the recession and things like that. the website for this is www.righttowork.org.uk
there are smaller campaigns which link into this one big one which aren't actually national and have been campaigned about locally such as the POSTAL WORKERS STRIKE and also the SAVE JOBS AT CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PRESS.

the campaign I'm researching is about keeping peoples jobs that deserve them and making big companies pay more tax as people who are really wealthy have not had to feel the recession as they still get their bonuses and they still get to keep their jobs and don't have to pay half the tax that people with a standard job pay.

They have done loads of conferences for this campaign there is also a lot of stand they have done i.e thousands rage against new labour in brighton.

Screen printing

Wednesday morning we started our screen printing, which was quite exciting as i had neevr done anything like this before, we also had a god range of colours aswell.

i started without the frame and just a fine paint brush, it was going well untill i realised i ahd to much paint on my brsh so it was bleeding through the stencil and on to bits of the t-shirt it shouldn't, i caried on to finish tha partiualr stencil, once i had finished it i took off he sencil and realised what had happened you couldnt even read that it said DISCOUNT it ended up looking more like biscuit, i used this as a rough copy t-shirt and pracised he rest of my stencils on this t-shirt to see how they would turn out they all did the same.

I then came up with the idea of spray painting my stencils on to my t-shirt as it would deffinately come out and hopefully look good, however the only down fall was that i only had a colour selection of 3 including black and the other colours were red and yellow so i couldn't use my original colour idea but in these circumstances i had to use whatever i could get. The weathe didnt help my situation especially when the spray paining had to be dne outside and it was spitting with rain and very windy, i started to spray paint my stencils on and the paint went slightly on to the side of my t-shirt but that wasn't the biggest problem, i accidentally put on one of my main stencils backwards and it wasnt readable. There wasn't alot i could do about this in the end so i ended up going back to the screen printing idea and screen printing the 20% stencil which is the one i spray printed on backwards. I painted it on in a nice bold colour so that it was visible.

To conclude screen printing, i think that i works for some and not others, however if its done he right way it should work.

Today's reflection

1. What did i do today?
Today we started by being given an outline of the week so what we will be doing and deadlines, we also got told the percentages for each section of the mark scheme on our t-shirt project so how much each bit is worth. We then filled out our yellow tick forms so that we know what we have done and what we have got to do, we also then filled out an action plan for the week something we should have don't today, then something we should have completed by tuesday/ wednesday and then something we have done by then end of the week.

2. What went well and why?
The action plan went well and also the updating my blog went well too.

3. What could i have done differently?
I could have learnt how to copy a picture from flickr to blogger and that would have speeded things up alot.

4. what do i have to do tomorrow?
i need to start research for my slideshow

The above images are my individual stencil images that i used for my t-shirt, i had to make them individual as i was using seperate colours for each of them and doing it this way makes it easier and alot less messy. when it came to cutting ut my stencils it was quite difficult as they were very fiddly it took me a least 1 hour and 30 miuntes, however they did turn out very well if i must say so myself.

This is he final design idea and what will be the final desing on the front of my t-shirt, i got the ideas for this simple design from thinking that there should be dicount in most shops, which then lead me to think well what abou worldwide so that everyone aged 16-19 can enjoy discount, on clothes and electrials.

My top 5 tips to myself

Top 5 tips
#1 keep the design simple
#2 stay on top of the idea process
#3 Listen to all tips that are given to you
#4 stay focussed
#5 remember to make sure that if you are having more than 2 colours that you need to do 2 layers.

Stencil art evaluation

Stage 1
the drawing of it i ididnt really leaar anything as drawing isn't to difficult but i not that arty so it was a tad difficult, i think the creativness in the drawing was quite good for someone who dont usually draw, however if i could change this part i would completely change my design as people question it to much and when it came to the thought process my idea was two seperate ideas combined i think i would of liked it saying music undernetah or something.

Stage 2
When it came to re-creting our design in to tbut there were bits so i had to get the paint brush and fel them i then had to add the text add a heart to the end then make the heart red so quite complex. If i changed anything about my design on photoshop it would be the headphones i think they were a bit thin but the original picture i wanted i couldn't get as the website it was on was blocked at college, other than that i quite like the design on photoshop.

Stage 3
The cutting out on acetate i didnt find that hard as i had done the kind of thing in graphics the only difficult thing was the fact i coulnt use one of my fingers, the skills i have demonstrated within stage were the knowledge of knowing how to use a stanley knife and knowing how to cut it all out, i am most pleased by the fact i cut out my stencil quite well as i didnt cut out anyhting that i wasn't supposed to, i wouldn't change anything to this part as its quite a ell done stage i think.

Stage 4
Spray painting my design, not alot could be really said bout learning anything baout this technique as its pretty much what it says in the title spray painting my stencil design, the only complex thing would be the fact i had 2 seperate layers so i had to do them seperately. I am most pleased with the skills i have demonstrated becasue my stencil design turned out really well i thnik so i am very pleased. i wouldnt chnage anything baout this part either as it turned out very good.

Homework 3 T-shirt Designs

For my first idea which is something to make my own life better i thoguht of warmer weather all year round so on a t-shirt i thoguht i could have a huge SUN with a smiley face in it and then the words ALWAYS underneath it.

For my second idea which is something to benefit others i thought of 20% discount for students in EVERY shop all around the world, how id present it on a t-shirt is i would have a world like below and then have the logos of different shop brands around it and then have 20% in the corner on the right hand side of the world.

For my third idea which is something to make people smile i thought of  to give everyone an extra hour in bed so a later start to college.

Idea 1
1. This is a worthwhile campaign as it wont only effect me but it will also effect others so its not a selfish campaign, i think it would be useful because its going to make everyone a lot happier and if people suffer from bad skin then this will help as well, it would also mean that we could sunbath in england and people wouldn't have to spend loads of money each year on going abroad.

2. I think this idea is relevant to my target audience as the age group- 16-19 would appreciate the sun i think.

Idea 2
1. I think this is a worthwhile campaign as it would be useful to everyone and it means that we would get discount in shops we don't usually  and i reckon this would then create more business for those shops as it would mean things would be cheaper.

2. This would appeal to my target audience as we are what you class as students so it wouldn't actually effect anyone else, i think it would make the shops a lot busier if everyone was able to get discount in EVERY single shop especially if it was 20%  and also world wide, so if we were abroad we could shop in the shops and still get 20% off.

Idea 3
1. I think this a worthwhile campaign as everyone is always so run down and tired so i think this would really cheer people up and make them a lot more social when it came to college.

2. This would be relevant to the target audience as they are the ones who attend college and i think its them that the extra hour in bed would truly benefit.

Thursday, 5 November 2009

These are the 3 designs i like out of all the classes,

2. Is the design successful?
3. What are the connotations of your image/logo?
4. Does it address your target audience (16 to 19 year olds)?
5. Could it be improved?

The design "SWEET"
2. I think this design could be successful as its creative and different if its designed well on photoshop it will look really good, however I'm not sure i like the E's in it as they aren't as clear as they could be.

3. I think the connotations for this desing are the fact the love represents

T-shirt design

This is my template done on photoshop of the drawn version, it was quite an easy process trying to design it on photoshop however the headphones were not as easy as the rest as i had to find a picture on the internet and then attach them, the picture started off as a silver image they looked like actual headphones, i then had to change them in threshold to look the way they do and then get the paint brush tool and fill the white bits in black so that when it comes to cutting it out i know where to cut, the lines through the B and the O are the bridges so that nothing falls through, the heart wont actually be red once i have cut it out its just the colour it will be at the end. I don't think it was that hard to go from drawing to photoshop as i knew exactly how i was going to do it and it was straight forward, i cant draw so using a computer to make my design was easier for me.

Banksy

What i find most effective about this particular piece of art done by banksy is that its funny as there's huge doughnut on a van being escorted by police motorbikes, i like how you have the bright colours of the doughnut and the lights on the bikes and the rest is black and white i think this is really effective. It really stands out as its not the type of art you would see everyday.

Banksy is an anonymous graffiti artist, based in bristol but he graffitis everywhere from london to Brighton.

He is believed to be a native of YateSouth Gloucestershire, near Bristol[2] and to have been born in 1974,[5] but there is substantial public uncertainty about his identity and personal and biographical details.[6] According to Tristan Manco, Banksy "was born in 1974 and raised in Bristol, England. The son of a photocopier technician, he trained as a butcher but became involved in graffiti during the great Bristol aerosol boom of the late 1980s."[7] His artworks are often satirical pieces of art on topics such as politics, culture, and ethics. His street art, which combines graffiti writing with a distinctive stencilling technique, is similar to Blek le Rat
