Campaign posters

These are my 2 campaign posters for my campaign which is 20% discount for students worldwide, however i did think about changing the target audience to a smaller one so something like the UK. The posters were quite easy to design on photoshop as they were simple images and the typing was fairly easy to, the only thing which was difficult was getting the pictures on top of the ipods and rearranging the ipods to look the way they do.

Research a petition

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/teenage-jobs/?signed=f88e9cc.eb9be7

The link above is to show that i have signed a petition for "making it easier for teenagers (13-18) to get fairly paid jobs."

i choose this petition becasue i totally agree with it i thnk teenagers ranged from that age group have the right to have a job as they are older enough to cope and its nice to be independent and be able to have your own money instead of relying on your parents. I am lucky as i have had a job since i was 14 and it was quite well paid but i do feel that everyone esle should have this oppurtunity as its just as fair.

Research on my own campaign

My campaign is 20% discount for students worldwide on clothes and electrical's.

There is a student union known as NUS they are there to try and improve the lives of students and also the people in the union too. They have said that there mission is "Our mission is to promote, defend and extend the rights of students and to develop and champion strong students' unions." quoted from their website.

There is something called an NUS card which is what students from the age of 16-19 can apply for you have to be a college to apply for it as it gets sent to the studnet union rep at your 6th form and this gets you 10% discount at selected stores in the U.K.

There are also things like NUS abroad so international NUS,

From doing research on my first campaign idea i have realsied that my audience is quite big and to be honest is not really achieveable , so i have changed my audience and slightly changed my campaign idea my audience is now the U.K and the idea is to have 20% discount for students on clothes and eletricals however i think it would be a good idea if i worked alongside the NUS team as they already have a good system going i just feel that they should broaden which shops your allowed to use the card in and maybe hae a few more shops which sell diffrent thing for example somewhere like john lewis as they sell electircals clothng acceorises etc.

Researching a campaign.

We have been asked to research a campaign from the following website

I have chosen a national campaign which is about saving jobs from the recession and things like that. the website for this is www.righttowork.org.uk
there are smaller campaigns which link into this one big one which aren't actually national and have been campaigned about locally such as the POSTAL WORKERS STRIKE and also the SAVE JOBS AT CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PRESS.

the campaign I'm researching is about keeping peoples jobs that deserve them and making big companies pay more tax as people who are really wealthy have not had to feel the recession as they still get their bonuses and they still get to keep their jobs and don't have to pay half the tax that people with a standard job pay.

They have done loads of conferences for this campaign there is also a lot of stand they have done i.e thousands rage against new labour in brighton.

Screen printing

Wednesday morning we started our screen printing, which was quite exciting as i had neevr done anything like this before, we also had a god range of colours aswell.

i started without the frame and just a fine paint brush, it was going well untill i realised i ahd to much paint on my brsh so it was bleeding through the stencil and on to bits of the t-shirt it shouldn't, i caried on to finish tha partiualr stencil, once i had finished it i took off he sencil and realised what had happened you couldnt even read that it said DISCOUNT it ended up looking more like biscuit, i used this as a rough copy t-shirt and pracised he rest of my stencils on this t-shirt to see how they would turn out they all did the same.

I then came up with the idea of spray painting my stencils on to my t-shirt as it would deffinately come out and hopefully look good, however the only down fall was that i only had a colour selection of 3 including black and the other colours were red and yellow so i couldn't use my original colour idea but in these circumstances i had to use whatever i could get. The weathe didnt help my situation especially when the spray paining had to be dne outside and it was spitting with rain and very windy, i started to spray paint my stencils on and the paint went slightly on to the side of my t-shirt but that wasn't the biggest problem, i accidentally put on one of my main stencils backwards and it wasnt readable. There wasn't alot i could do about this in the end so i ended up going back to the screen printing idea and screen printing the 20% stencil which is the one i spray printed on backwards. I painted it on in a nice bold colour so that it was visible.

To conclude screen printing, i think that i works for some and not others, however if its done he right way it should work.

Today's reflection

1. What did i do today?
Today we started by being given an outline of the week so what we will be doing and deadlines, we also got told the percentages for each section of the mark scheme on our t-shirt project so how much each bit is worth. We then filled out our yellow tick forms so that we know what we have done and what we have got to do, we also then filled out an action plan for the week something we should have don't today, then something we should have completed by tuesday/ wednesday and then something we have done by then end of the week.

2. What went well and why?
The action plan went well and also the updating my blog went well too.

3. What could i have done differently?
I could have learnt how to copy a picture from flickr to blogger and that would have speeded things up alot.

4. what do i have to do tomorrow?
i need to start research for my slideshow

The above images are my individual stencil images that i used for my t-shirt, i had to make them individual as i was using seperate colours for each of them and doing it this way makes it easier and alot less messy. when it came to cutting ut my stencils it was quite difficult as they were very fiddly it took me a least 1 hour and 30 miuntes, however they did turn out very well if i must say so myself.

This is he final design idea and what will be the final desing on the front of my t-shirt, i got the ideas for this simple design from thinking that there should be dicount in most shops, which then lead me to think well what abou worldwide so that everyone aged 16-19 can enjoy discount, on clothes and electrials.

My top 5 tips to myself

Top 5 tips
#1 keep the design simple
#2 stay on top of the idea process
#3 Listen to all tips that are given to you
#4 stay focussed
#5 remember to make sure that if you are having more than 2 colours that you need to do 2 layers.

Stencil art evaluation

Stage 1
the drawing of it i ididnt really leaar anything as drawing isn't to difficult but i not that arty so it was a tad difficult, i think the creativness in the drawing was quite good for someone who dont usually draw, however if i could change this part i would completely change my design as people question it to much and when it came to the thought process my idea was two seperate ideas combined i think i would of liked it saying music undernetah or something.

Stage 2
When it came to re-creting our design in to tbut there were bits so i had to get the paint brush and fel them i then had to add the text add a heart to the end then make the heart red so quite complex. If i changed anything about my design on photoshop it would be the headphones i think they were a bit thin but the original picture i wanted i couldn't get as the website it was on was blocked at college, other than that i quite like the design on photoshop.

Stage 3
The cutting out on acetate i didnt find that hard as i had done the kind of thing in graphics the only difficult thing was the fact i coulnt use one of my fingers, the skills i have demonstrated within stage were the knowledge of knowing how to use a stanley knife and knowing how to cut it all out, i am most pleased by the fact i cut out my stencil quite well as i didnt cut out anyhting that i wasn't supposed to, i wouldn't change anything to this part as its quite a ell done stage i think.

Stage 4
Spray painting my design, not alot could be really said bout learning anything baout this technique as its pretty much what it says in the title spray painting my stencil design, the only complex thing would be the fact i had 2 seperate layers so i had to do them seperately. I am most pleased with the skills i have demonstrated becasue my stencil design turned out really well i thnik so i am very pleased. i wouldnt chnage anything baout this part either as it turned out very good.

Homework 3 T-shirt Designs

For my first idea which is something to make my own life better i thoguht of warmer weather all year round so on a t-shirt i thoguht i could have a huge SUN with a smiley face in it and then the words ALWAYS underneath it.

For my second idea which is something to benefit others i thought of 20% discount for students in EVERY shop all around the world, how id present it on a t-shirt is i would have a world like below and then have the logos of different shop brands around it and then have 20% in the corner on the right hand side of the world.

For my third idea which is something to make people smile i thought of  to give everyone an extra hour in bed so a later start to college.

Idea 1
1. This is a worthwhile campaign as it wont only effect me but it will also effect others so its not a selfish campaign, i think it would be useful because its going to make everyone a lot happier and if people suffer from bad skin then this will help as well, it would also mean that we could sunbath in england and people wouldn't have to spend loads of money each year on going abroad.

2. I think this idea is relevant to my target audience as the age group- 16-19 would appreciate the sun i think.

Idea 2
1. I think this is a worthwhile campaign as it would be useful to everyone and it means that we would get discount in shops we don't usually  and i reckon this would then create more business for those shops as it would mean things would be cheaper.

2. This would appeal to my target audience as we are what you class as students so it wouldn't actually effect anyone else, i think it would make the shops a lot busier if everyone was able to get discount in EVERY single shop especially if it was 20%  and also world wide, so if we were abroad we could shop in the shops and still get 20% off.

Idea 3
1. I think this a worthwhile campaign as everyone is always so run down and tired so i think this would really cheer people up and make them a lot more social when it came to college.

2. This would be relevant to the target audience as they are the ones who attend college and i think its them that the extra hour in bed would truly benefit.

These are the 3 designs i like out of all the classes,

2. Is the design successful?
3. What are the connotations of your image/logo?
4. Does it address your target audience (16 to 19 year olds)?
5. Could it be improved?

The design "SWEET"
2. I think this design could be successful as its creative and different if its designed well on photoshop it will look really good, however I'm not sure i like the E's in it as they aren't as clear as they could be.

3. I think the connotations for this desing are the fact the love represents

T-shirt design

This is my template done on photoshop of the drawn version, it was quite an easy process trying to design it on photoshop however the headphones were not as easy as the rest as i had to find a picture on the internet and then attach them, the picture started off as a silver image they looked like actual headphones, i then had to change them in threshold to look the way they do and then get the paint brush tool and fill the white bits in black so that when it comes to cutting it out i know where to cut, the lines through the B and the O are the bridges so that nothing falls through, the heart wont actually be red once i have cut it out its just the colour it will be at the end. I don't think it was that hard to go from drawing to photoshop as i knew exactly how i was going to do it and it was straight forward, i cant draw so using a computer to make my design was easier for me.

Banksy

What i find most effective about this particular piece of art done by banksy is that its funny as there's huge doughnut on a van being escorted by police motorbikes, i like how you have the bright colours of the doughnut and the lights on the bikes and the rest is black and white i think this is really effective. It really stands out as its not the type of art you would see everyday.

Banksy is an anonymous graffiti artist, based in bristol but he graffitis everywhere from london to Brighton.

He is believed to be a native of YateSouth Gloucestershire, near Bristol[2] and to have been born in 1974,[5] but there is substantial public uncertainty about his identity and personal and biographical details.[6] According to Tristan Manco, Banksy "was born in 1974 and raised in Bristol, England. The son of a photocopier technician, he trained as a butcher but became involved in graffiti during the great Bristol aerosol boom of the late 1980s."[7] His artworks are often satirical pieces of art on topics such as politics, culture, and ethics. His street art, which combines graffiti writing with a distinctive stencilling technique, is similar to Blek le Rat

My design for the T-shirt is a boy with headphones on and it saying BOY  I'm not to sure what it represents as it was a random creation I'm not sure whether i like it either as i think it should be either one or the other maybe not both of them.

1. What inspired your design idea?

My inspiration came from a t-shirt that my friend had bought which i had also seen in river island the top said " GIRL (Heart) " this inspired me for my idea " BOY (Heart) " the face in which is on my top with the headphones, i designed myself one day i was just drawing and ended up drawing it, i thought it would look quite creative with the BOY underneath it as its never been done before and its also a really random design and people question it quite a lot but its a good questioning.

2. Is the design successful? and why?

I think it could be quite successful as its attractive but i do think its very random and some people might not buy it as they don't really understand it but i think that's the beauty of it as people will look and think i like it but i don't know why. Why would it be successful well because its different it would appeal to the audience and younger maybe, its not to busy and i for one don't usually like busy t-shirts i think they look more effective if they are quite simple.

3. What are the connotations of your image?

The connotations of my image are that the red means love, so the love of music and the love of boys it could also mean happy as well reds quite a versatile colour because it could mean death and anger but in my case its the more happier things, the black doesn't actually mean anything its just an outline colour.

4. Does it address your target audience (16-19) ?

Yes i would say it does address my target audience as the shops i think it should or would be sold in are used mostly by the people of the target audience and possibly younger so i think it would appeal as i got a good vibe from the people in my class and their ages vary so this made me positive about appealing.

5. Could it be improved?

Everything can always be improved slightly, yes i think mine could, id adjust the size of the head with headphones and make it smaller, id center the BOY more so it was underneath the image i would also change the size of the heart.

Socks & The City from Battlefronters on Vimeo.

I chose this video because i agree with it, i think it is really quite effective as its not someone just standing there being all depressed. i think the sound is clear which is good also the actual filming itself was really clear there were no jolts which was good, there were no graphics as such there were words which came in over the video which said something like "never mind  all the talk you look lovely as you are." this is a nice statement as it its a feel good one. i like the re take of sex and the city but they called it socks and the city, it was humorous as they were using sock puppets to get the point across, its a serious matter but they made it funny so people actually listen to the point. its very creative and i like the voiceovers as well.

This graph represents the amount of girl to boys who agree with my statement "i want everyone to be richer" there are 9 girls who agreed and 3 boys who agreed and then 1 boy who disagreed but not girls disagreed.

This graph represents those who are 17 and agreed and also disagreed and those who are 16 and agreed and also disagreed.

This is Laura's logo that she designed, i am not able to comment on mine as i was not here when the task was set.

The logo consists of four shapes which look like splats of paint, in 4 different colours with the letters CRM in capitals which are also in black, then you have the A which is in lower case letters and in red with "creative media" in red and the "&" in black.

The things i like about this logo is that its simple but good at the same time, like it looks like it took ages and it was literally just chucked together within 5 minutes, i like the use of bright colours as it makes it stand out.

The things i don't like about the logo is the different sized shapes i reckon it would look better if they were possibly all the same size or two the same and the other two and not just randomly sized.

This is a breakdown of my FAVORITE t-shirt.

To be able to rotate the arrows i had to click on the custom create tool then pull it out to make it the size i wanted, then click on edit -> transform -> rotate, this then enabled me to rotate the image.

The text was quite easy all i needed to do with that was to add a text box then, decide which font i wanted and also colour and size.

Adding the pictures all i did was save it to my desktop then drag it from desktop into photoshop, but to enlarge the picture you had to click Edit -> Transform -> Scale and then hold the shift key so that it stayed the same scale, we then had to push enter afterwards so that it wasn't pixelated.

The reason for changing the background colour was so that i could have my white arrows other wise you wouldn't be able to see them. How i did this was i pushed the paint bucket tool and changed the colour i wanted it so i changed it to grey.

T-shirt history

The t-shirt evolved from undergarments used in the 19th century by cutting the one piece underwear into separates so you had top and bottoms. It was also adopted by miners and stevedores in the 1800's as a convenient top for hot conditions. T-shirts without buttons then became big in the U.S as the issued them to the navy to wear underneath there uniforms like the one below .

This is what the first t-shirt looked like that the navy wore.

The word T-shirt didn't become a word in the english dictionary until 1920's also up until the 1950's t-shirts were still considered a underwear until john wayne, Marlon Brando and James dean all shocked americans by going on live TV in there "underwear." In 1955  James Dean helped make the t-shirt everyday clothing in Rebel without a cause. In the 60's screen printing became big and also tye dying became quite popular too, other types of t-shirts also made it quite big like the tank, and muscle shirts. In the late 60's early 70's people realised that printing on t-shirt could be an up and coming business so people like rock and roll bands and athletic teams started to make big profits selling screen printed tops.

This is a David & goliath printed tee.
